The 2A1 Ishapore Enfield, chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, was purpose-built by India as a stop-gap measure before FAL rifles were available. It retains the Enfield's smooth bolt action and rapid-fire capability, achieving 'combat accurate' 4-inch groups at 100 yards. While not a precision rifle, its reliability and rate of fire made it suitable for its intended military role.
