The Republic Arms RAP-401 is a compact, all-steel South African pistol developed for police service in the late 1980s, inspired by the Astra A75. It features a double-action semi-automatic operation with a Browning-style locking system and is available in 9mm (8-round capacity) and .40 S&W (7-round capacity for the RAP-440 variant). Due to international arms embargoes, Republic Arms initially focused on domestic production before pivoting to the US export market.
