The Swedish AK4 is a robust variant of the H&K G3, developed to meet higher durability standards for the Swedish military. Key modifications include a longer service life requirement (15,000 rounds), a reinforced receiver, a longer stock, a dual-spring recoil buffer, and a unique bolt carrier with a thumb pad for silent closure. Production was handled by Carl Gustaf and Husqvarna, and these rifles later saw service with the Estonian Defence Forces.
The Estonian R20L 'Rahe' DMR, manufactured by LMT, is chambered in 7.62x51mm and features fully ambidextrous controls and a select-fire trigger group. It is equipped with a high-end Schmidt & Bender scope and Harris bipod. Early production models experienced gas plug failures, which LMT resolved with a redesigned gas block. The rifle is specified for approximately 2.2 MOA accuracy and Estonia procured around 700 units.
Estonia has adopted the LMT R20 'Rahe' as its new standard infantry rifle, replacing the Galil. This AR-style platform offers variants for both standard infantry (5.56mm) and designated marksmen (7.62mm), featuring a monolithic upper receiver, ambidextrous controls, and a unique round counter. LMT won the 2019 contract based on price, reliability, and field testing.
