The M1909 Benet-Mercie, America's first adopted LMG, was a Hotchkiss design produced by Colt and Springfield Armory. Despite its advanced features like a quick-change barrel and telescopic sights, it suffered from poor training and limited combat use, primarily serving as a training weapon by WWI. Its most notable combat deployment was during Pancho Villa's raid on Columbus, New Mexico, where it fired 20,000 rounds.
