The Interdynamic MP-9, a Swedish-designed submachine gun, was the precursor to the TEC-9. Designer George Kellgren brought the design to the US, adapting it into the semi-automatic KG-9 pistol for the civilian market. Its simple open-bolt design led to ATF restrictions, necessitating a redesign to the closed-bolt KG-99 and eventually the Intratec TEC-9.
