This video tests the ballistic resistance of a Pittsburgh 1.25 lb hatchet against various calibers. While it stops birdshot, .22 LR, and 9mm, a .223 Remington penetrates halfway, and a .308 Winchester completely passes through the head. The hatchet is not bulletproof against rifle rounds.
