The Colt Double Eagle (Series 90) was Colt's attempt to enter the DA/SA market in the late 1980s/early 1990s, adapting a 1911 platform. Despite its 10mm caliber and DA/SA action, it suffered from a complex and fragile internal mechanism, particularly its wire springs. Ultimately, it failed in the market due to high cost and less refinement compared to competitors, leading to its discontinuation.
