The US Military has selected SIG Sauer's MCX Spear, designated XM5, as its new service rifle, replacing the M4. This new weapon system, along with the XM250 light machine gun, utilizes a proprietary 6.8mm cartridge designed for higher chamber pressure (80,000 PSI) and increased range/penetration. Vortex Optics will supply advanced XM157 fire control systems for these new platforms.
