U.S. Army Adopts First New Hand Grenade Since 1968
Summary
The U.S. Army has adopted the M111 Offensive Hand Grenade, the first new lethal hand grenade since 1968, designed for close combat in confined environments. Developed at Picatinny Arsenal, the M111 incapacitates personnel through blast overpressure, reducing fragmentation risk. It weighs 12.6 ounces, measures 4.41 inches long, and will replace the MK 3A2, with full-rate production handled by Day & Zimmermann, Inc. and materiel release approval in October 2025.
