Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger signed Senate Bill 749 into law, banning "assault weapons" and "certain magazines" effective July 1. Immediately following, the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), National Rifle Association (NRA), and Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC), along with private citizens, filed a federal lawsuit (McDonald v. Katz) in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia challenging the new law's constitutionality.
