The Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) published a paper on July 30, 2024, asserting that FBI Active Shooter Reports from 2014-2023 significantly undercount incidents where armed citizens stopped attackers. The CPRC found 180 such incidents compared to the FBI's 14, and identified 515 active shooter events overall, 165 more than the FBI.
