Colorado's new purchase system for "specified semiautomatic firearms" (SSFs) became effective on August 1, 2026, stemming from Senate Bill 25-003. Buyers of covered firearms, which include most detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles/shotguns and gas-operated semi-automatic handguns, must now obtain a county-issued eligibility card and complete a state-approved 4-hour or 12-hour training course before a dealer can proceed with a sale or transfer.
