The Browning BDM pistol features a unique Dual Mode selector, allowing it to function as a traditional DA/SA semi-automatic ('P' mode) or a double-action-only system ('R' mode) mimicking revolver operation. This mode switching is accomplished via a tab on the magazine floor plate. An unusual safety feature automatically releases the slide and decocks the hammer when engaged with the slide locked back.
