The High Standard T3 prototype was an attempt to replace the Colt 1911 for US aircrews, aiming for a lighter, more compact 9mm pistol. Despite innovative features like an aluminum frame and a delayed blowback system designed by Otto von Lossnitzer, the prototypes suffered from reliability issues and frame damage. The program was ultimately canceled in 1953, with the Air Force continuing to use the M1911.
This video details George Wilson's rare Match .45 Autopistol, one of only three built around 1960. It features a unique short-recoil system inspired by the Walther P38 and a high bore axis for reduced muzzle flip. The pistol's complex internal design, including a combined hammer/feed ramp and dual recoil springs, makes it ideal for precision bullseye shooting rather than military use.
