The High Standard T3 prototype was an attempt to replace the Colt 1911 for US aircrews, aiming for a lighter, more compact 9mm pistol. Despite innovative features like an aluminum frame and a delayed blowback system designed by Otto von Lossnitzer, the prototypes suffered from reliability issues and frame damage. The program was ultimately canceled in 1953, with the Air Force continuing to use the M1911.
