Heckler & Koch (H&K) has won a lawsuit against the German government concerning the G36 assault rifle. The court ruled that H&K met all contractual quality control measures, absolving them of fault for alleged overheating and accuracy issues reported by German paratroopers in Afghanistan. Despite the ruling, Germany plans to replace the G36 as its official issue rifle when the new contract is awarded in 2018.
