Marko Vukovik's Prototype Machine Pistol: the V.M.18
The V.M.18 is a Croatian prototype machine pistol developed by Marko Vukovik, heavily based on the Walther P38 but featuring a 17-round double-stack magazine and a longer barrel. It was designed for selective fire (semi-auto 'J' and full-auto 'R') and used a short recoil system. Despite its advanced design for the time, the Yugoslav Army rejected it due to cost, leading to its evolution into the PHP.
