Effective January 1, 2027, Illinois deer hunters will no longer be limited to single-shot centerfire rifles thanks to the passage of Senate Bill 2756 (Public Act 104-0627). The new law allows centerfire rifles and handguns with a combined magazine and chamber capacity of three cartridges, provided they meet specific caliber and muzzle energy requirements for ammunition.
