The Isard pistol, a rare Catalan-made firearm from the Spanish Civil War, was a last-ditch Republican effort. The Star Model 1920 is a Spanish locked-breech pistol, mechanically similar to the Colt 1911 but with distinct differences like a slide-mounted safety and no grip safety. Initially tested by the Spanish Army, it was adopted by the Guardia Civil. Later iterations, like the Model 1921 (Model A), incorporated requested upgrades such as a grip safety and adjustable sights, eventually leading to its adoption by the Spanish Army post-WWII.
