BAFFLE STRIKE! What does it mean for your silencer?
This video demonstrates the critical importance of secure silencer mounting. It experimentally loosens a direct-thread 5.56 suppressor, revealing significant point-of-impact shifts even at 1/4 turn loose. A baffle strike (end cap strike) occurs at 5 revolutions loose, damaging the suppressor but surprisingly not altering decibel readings. The test concludes that alternative mounting systems like taper mounts or ratcheting locks are essential to prevent dangerous baffle strikes and maintain accuracy.
