What Major Ammo & Rifle Change Is Coming To The US Military?!
The US military is undergoing a significant change in its standard issue firearms and ammunition. Sig Sauer has secured a 10-year, $4.5 billion contract to produce new rifles and automatic weapons, designated the XM5 and XM250, which will replace the M4, M4A1, and M249. These new platforms will fire the 6.8mm SPC cartridge, promising reduced recoil and improved performance. This transition is expected to increase the availability of 5.56x45mm and .223 Remington ammunition for civilian use and may influence civilian and law enforcement adoption of the 6.8mm caliber.
