Hearing Protection Act of 2017 - "Make Suppressors Great Again!"
The Hearing Protection Act of 2017 (HR 367) aims to remove firearm suppressors from the National Firearms Act (NFA) registry. This proposed legislation seeks to streamline the purchasing process by eliminating the $200 tax stamp and the lengthy six-month waiting period, instead transferring the background check to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The bill, championed by Congressman Jeff Duncan and John Carter, intends to make suppressors legal in all 50 states, a significant change from the current 42 states where they are permitted.
