When M14 Meets M16: The Fort Ellis XR-86 Frankenrifle
The Fort Ellis XR-86 is a unique 'Franken rifle' built by Wilfred Ellis in 1986, merging M14, M16, and M60 components. It features an M14 gas system with a short-stroke piston, an AR-15 fire control group rotated 90 degrees, and a repurposed AR-15 trigger as a side-charging handle. Despite its experimental nature, Ellis reported only one minor malfunction in 900 rounds.
