The best AK variant - but it’s not an AK.
The VZ 58, a Czech firearm, is distinct from the AK-47 despite sharing the 7.62x39mm caliber. Key differences include a short-stroke gas piston system, proprietary magazines, and a last-round bolt hold open feature, unlike the AK's long-stroke system and lack of bolt hold open. While visually similar to the SKS in some aspects, the VZ 58 is a unique platform. Imported versions are now more accessible in the US market.
