10mm vs 357 magnum performance test with ballistics gel
This video compares the ballistic performance of 10mm Auto and .357 Magnum using Hornady XTP ammunition fired into ballistic gel. The 10mm, with a 200-grain XTP from a 4.5-inch barrel, averaged 1244 fps and 687 ft-lbs of energy. The .357 Magnum, with a 158-grain XTP from a 3-inch barrel, averaged 1176 fps and 485 ft-lbs of energy. In gel tests, the 10mm showed greater expansion and a wound track of approximately 17 inches, while the .357 Magnum exhibited milder expansion but achieved deeper penetration around 23.5 inches, highlighting its advantage in sectional density for penetration-focused applications.
