Michigan. The Next State to Ban Assault Weapons?
Michigan House Bill 6544 proposes an 'assault weapon' ban, redefining the term to include semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines and specific features like pistol grips or barrel shrouds. If enacted, possession of such firearms would become unlawful starting January 1, 2024, with a registration requirement for grandfathered weapons. Violations carry felony penalties of up to five years imprisonment.
