Gun Shop Gives Away Free AR-15s Before Ban
Rhode Island has enacted an assault weapons ban prohibiting the manufacture, sale, and transfer of most semi-automatic rifles, with penalties up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for violations. A local gun shop, Surplus Provisions, held a giveaway of firearms, including AR-15s, prior to the ban's effective date to protest the legislation. The ban allows current owners to keep banned firearms if registered, a measure met with skepticism regarding compliance.
