Supreme Court OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED to BAN Assault Weapons
The US Supreme Court has officially declined to block Illinois's ban on assault-style rifles and large-capacity magazines, allowing the 'Protect Illinois Communities Act' to remain in effect. This decision stems from legal challenges brought by gun rights advocates, including the National Association for Gun Rights and a firearms retailer. The ban, enacted in response to the 2022 Highland Park mass shooting, prohibits the sale of certain semi-automatic weapons and magazines exceeding specific round limits, while exempting existing owners who must register their firearms by January 1, 2024. The ruling signifies a temporary victory for gun control proponents and highlights the ongoing legal and political tension surrounding Second Amendment rights and public safety.
