Introducing the Winchester XPR Rifle
Nick Schaefer, a design engineer for Winchester Firearms, introduces the Winchester XPR bolt-action rifle. He details its premium button-rifled barrel with a target crown, stress-relieved construction, and barrel nut system for precise headspace control. The rifle features a Chrome Molly, through-heat-treated receiver and bolt for strength, a 60-degree bolt throw with a nickel Teflon coating for lubricity and corrosion resistance, and a field-strippable bolt. The safety is a two-position type with a bolt unlock button for safe unloading. The trigger is Winchester's MOA trigger, adjustable for pull weight (factory set at 3.5 lbs, adjustable 3-5 lbs) and overtravel, offering zero takeup and creep. It utilizes a polymer single-stack magazine holding three rounds, with a total capacity of four. The composite polymer stock is lightweight yet stiff, housing a plate-style recoil lug and an Inflex recoil pad. The rifle is available in four long-action calibers: .338 Win Mag, .300 Win Mag, .270, and .30-06, with a retail price of $549.
